One year, my daughter suggested a cake decorating contest for Easter, and I accepted the challenge! We shared our cake-creations on Facebook, and our friends and family voted for their favourite. Despite my cake not winning this lead to what became an annual tradition of our “Christmas Cake Off”. As each year passed, we got more and more creative with our cakes.
Despite my daughter regularly winning, I developed a passion for cake decorating. What started as baking for friends and family turned into my small business, Moments Bakery. Since opening in the summer of 2021, I’ve loved creating incredible cakes and cupcakes for local, and even some not-so-local, customers!
Picking a name for your new business was something I didn’t think I was going to struggle with so much, but did. I was looking for inspiration in all the wrong places, coming up short, and still not having a name for my business weeks in.
Driving home from work, one of my favourite songs came on; Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. Singing along with the all-too-familiar song, one lyric stood out; “All I can taste is this moment.” I felt like I had immediately stumbled across the name for my new cake business; Moments Bakery.
The line captured everything I wanted my small-business to represent - the idea of cherishing moments with your loved ones. Birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, retirements, and all the other celebrations we share with our families and friends that create unforgettable memories.
